Chowdhury also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, won the post defeating three other contestants on the concluding day of the 5-day 131st IPU conference held in Geneva on October 16.

In the election, Saber secured 169 votes and his nearest contender
Australia Bronwyn Bishop got 95 votes. Saber Hossain is the first Bangladeshi to win the IPU post.
