Emajuddin Pramanik today informed the Jatiya Sangsad that the raw jute
and jute products are being exported to 69 countries across the world.

The countries include Iran, China, Australia, Belgium, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Philippine, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Egypt, Spain, Mexico, Turkey, Chili, Germany, United States, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Russia, South Africa, Dubai, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Pakistan, Soudi Arabia, Argentina, Brazil, France and Portugal.
He said Taka 7,641.77 crore were earnd by exporting raw jute till now from 2008-09 fiscal year.
On another question raised by Moazzem Hossain Ratan, Emajuddin said there are 23 silk villages across the country. There is a plan to set up more 15 ideal silk villages in four years to expand and develop silk industry in Bangladesh upto 2017, he said.
The minister said jute is being cultivated on nearly 17 lakh acres of land. Jute seed and modern agri matarials have also been distributed to 2.50 lakh farmers of 200 upazilas free of cost, he added.
